What Is Needed to Open a Business Account?

Opening your business account is easier when you know what to bring. The documents needed depend on how your business is organized, and our Business Services team is here to help you through the process.

Open Your Account in Three Simple Steps

  1. Find your business type below.
  2. Gather the required documents listed for your business.
  3. Contact Member Services at (313) 386-2200 Option 4 when you are ready or have questions.

Forms Required for All Business Accounts

Sole Proprietorship

You will generally need:

  • Social Security Number (SSN) of the business owner or Employer Identification Number (EIN) issued by the IRS in the name of the business or owner.
  • DBA, Certificate of Assumed Name, or Fictitious Business Name Statement filed within the last 5 years, if applicable.
  • Completed Certification of Beneficial Owner(s).
  • Completed Business Account Questionnaire.

Note: A Fictitious Business Name Statement is not required when the owner's surname or last name is used in the business name, such as Johnson's Tax Accounting or O'Donnell's Home Improvements. If the business name implies additional owners, such as Smith & Sons, Anderson & Company, or Jones and Associates, a DBA or Fictitious Business Name Statement is required.


General Partnership

You will generally need:

  • Employer Identification Number (EIN) issued by the IRS in the name of the business.
  • General Partnership Agreement signed by all partners or DBA, Certificate of Assumed Name, or Fictitious Business Name Statement filed within the last 5 years.
  • Completed Certification of Beneficial Owner(s).
  • Completed Business Account Questionnaire.

Limited Partnership (LP)

You will generally need:

  • Employer Identification Number (EIN) issued by the IRS in the name of the business.
  • Filed Certificate of Limited Partnership.
  • Limited Partnership Agreement signed by all partners.
  • DBA, Certificate of Assumed Name, or Fictitious Business Name Statement filed within the last 5 years, required only if the LP is using a DBA.
  • Completed Certification of Beneficial Owner(s).
  • Completed Business Account Questionnaire.

Limited Liability Partnership (LLP)

You will generally need:

  • Employer Identification Number (EIN) issued by the IRS in the name of the business.
  • Filed Application to Register a Limited Liability Partnership.
  • Limited Liability Partnership Agreement signed by all partners.
  • DBA, Certificate of Assumed Name, or Fictitious Business Name Statement filed within the last 5 years, required only if the LLP is using a DBA.
  • Completed Certification of Beneficial Owner(s).
  • Completed Business Account Questionnaire.

Limited Liability Company (LLC)

You will generally need:

  • Employer Identification Number (EIN) issued by the IRS in the name of the business.
  • Filed Articles of Organization.
  • DBA, Certificate of Assumed Name, or Fictitious Business Name Statement filed within the last 5 years, required only if the LLC is using a DBA.
  • Operating Agreement of the LLC signed and dated by the manager(s) or member(s), if available.
  • Completed Certification of Beneficial Owner(s).
  • Completed Business Account Questionnaire.

Important: Downriver CU does not accept LLCs established in another state or country.


Corporation

You will generally need:

  • Employer Identification Number (EIN) issued by the IRS in the name of the business.
  • Filed Articles of Incorporation.
  • DBA, Certificate of Assumed Name, or Fictitious Business Name Statement filed within the last 5 years, required only if the corporation is using a DBA.
  • Corporate bylaws signed and dated by the Secretary or a Corporate Resolution indicating who can transact on behalf of the corporation.
  • Completed Certification of Beneficial Owner(s).
  • Completed Business Account Questionnaire.

Important: Downriver CU does not accept corporations established in another state or country.
